Safe Place for Newborns

The Safe Place for Newborns is a program that helps save the lives of newborns in danger of abandonment and helps preserve the health and future of their mothers.

In Wisconsin, a parent can safely surrender their unharmed newborn up to 72 hours old with any firefighter, police officer, EMT or hospital employee. The parent may relinquish custody anonymously and without fear of prosecution in lieu of abandonment, injury or death.

The Safe Place for Newborns telephone line is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. If you would like to speak to someone about using the Safe Place for Newborns program, call 1-877-440-2229.

Learn more about the program at the Wisconsin Safe Place for Newborns Website.
