CT Scan of the Sinuses

Purpose: A CT scan of the sinuses produces cross sectional images of the paranasal sinuses.

Preparation: A CT scan of the sinuses does not require any advance preparation. At the time of your exam, you will be asked to remove necklaces, earrings, glasses, hearing aids, barrettes and any removable dental appliances. Prior to your exam, an ARRT Registered Radiologic Technologist will explain the procedure and answer any questions you have. If you think you are pregnant, please tell the technologist before your exam.

What to Expect: The technologist will position you on the CT table and make you as comfortable as possible. Your head will be placed in a special holder that will assist you in holding still for the examination. During the procedure, the table will move slowly through the opening in the scanner.

You will be alone in the room during the CT scan, however, the technologist will be able to see, hear and speak to you at all times.

Post Exam Information: Your images will be reviewed by a Radiologist and the results of your exam will be forwarded to your physician. Your physician will be able to discuss the results of your exam with you.
