Ultrasound of the Breast

Purpose: An Ultrasound of the Breast produces images of breast tissue. A breast ultrasound does not replace the need for a mammogram. It is often used in conjunction with a mammogram to evaluate an area of uncertainty.

Preparation: An Ultrasound of the Breast does not require any advance preparation. A Registered Ultrasound Technician will explain the procedure and answer any questions you have.

What to Expect: You will be asked to lie on your back on the ultrasound table. A warm gel is applied to the area of the breast that is being studied. The ultrasound technician will guide the transducer back and forth against the skin as images are captured.

Post Exam Information: Your images will be reviewed by a Radiologist and the results of your exam will be forwarded to your physician. Your physician will be able to discuss the results of your exam with you.

Time Frame: 30 minutes
