Renal Ultrasound (Kidney and Bladder)

Purpose: A Renal Ultrasound produces images of the kidneys, ureters and bladder.

Preparation: You will be instructed to not have anything to eat or drink after midnight the evening before your exam. You will also be instructed to drink 32 oz of water 1 hour prior to your scheduled appointment time. A Registered Ultrasound Technician will explain the procedure and answer any questions you have.

What to Expect: You will be asked to lie on your back on the ultrasound table. A warm gel is applied to the area of the body being studied. The ultrasound technician will guide the transducer back and forth over the area of interest as images are captured.

Post Exam Information: Your images will be reviewed by a Radiologist and the results of your exam will be forwarded to your physician. Your physician will be able to discuss the results of your exam with you.

Time Frame: 30-45 minutes
