Abdominal Imaging

Purpose: Abdominal imaging is used to evaluate abdominal organs such as the kidneys, ureters, bladder, and bowel gas patterns.

Preparation: Abdominal imaging does not require any advance preparation. On the day of your exam, wear clothing that you can change out of easily. Prior to your exam, an ARRT Registered Radiologic Technologist will explain the procedure and answer any questions you may have. If you think you are pregnant, please inform the technologist before your exam.

What to Expect: Depending on the image ordered, you will be asked to lie down on the x-ray table or stand next to an x-ray unit on the wall. You will be instructed to hold your breath while an exposure is made. The technologist will review the images, and if they are acceptable, you will be free to leave.

Post Exam Information: Your exam will be reviewed by a Radiologist and the results of your exam will be forwarded to your physician. Your physician will be able to discuss the results of your exam with you.

Time Frame: 10-15 minutes
